Mayumi Suzuki | violin  - Andrea Gattico | piano, vocals

A small ship's orchestra aboard a cruise liner from days gone by l’Espresso Atlantico, heads speedily towards mysterious, far away destinations in the four corners of the earth. Navigating without maps towards bizarre and fascinating locations; to the great seaports and harbours of the planet, from Buenos Aires to the island of Guadalupe, from Gibralter to the Seas of Java, along rivers, across lakes, through navigational canals, from Panama to the Bosphorus straights, from the Balalaika of Kaluga to the port of Yokohama.

The recklessly adventurous duo of Gattico & Suzuki, a couple both onstage and in real life, are our guides on this tour of far off lands where no vessel has previously ever dared to go. A musical journey across the oceans of the world to break down the farthest borders and open  up the frontiers of our planet.

Our ships captain on this journey of discovery through a repertoire of Caribbean rhythms, gypsy songs, tango and other dance music, classical and the sensations of the orient, is the pianist, composer and mustached singer Andrea Gattico with a great penchant for variety and a taste for good old fashioned musical hall and theatre; At his side is the brilliant young Japanese violinist Mayumi Suzuki. Now permanently making her home in Italy; with oriental class she squeezes every musical style imaginable from her instrument.

This agile musical formation, (which should be carried with you at all times!) brings together a unique, exhilarating expressivity with a multitude of melodies which bring to mind the repertoire of the onboard orchestras of ancient transatlantic steamships of old. All this amalgamated together in perfect harmony, with expertise and more than just a drop of irony!

Gattico & Suzuki

In 2006 the Gattico&Suzuki duo was formed. Their eclectic spere of cultural and musical influences span from gypsy to classical music, mixed with elements of local popular traditions and filtered through a collective imagination that comprises American and European compositions from the early 19th century to extreme Oriental sounds stemming from another world. Active participation in various musical projects, soundtracks, theater shows, concerts and accompaniment for poetic/musical readings make up their broad and illustrious opus.
